STAR POINTS

“MY POINT IS”

As children and adults, we often will draw pictures of stars; some of those who do so are very talented at this task, while others like me have a more difficult time. One concept that we are often taught at an early age, is that stars have five(5) points, but this is just a myth or a guess. Stars are all different and have different shapes and may have many points or very few.

As I think of our Eastern Star, I think of many points that I consider very worthwhile and many, many great characteristics of our organization. I also have thought about how I can contribute more to the Chapter, and how I can assist and help others.

One point that I would like to be able to accomplish this year is to help our Worthy Matron with all of her goals and projects. I personally know that she is a very organized and caring woman because she is my Sister by Birth, my Christian Sister, and my Eastern Star Sister! I am so lucky to have been given such a giving, kind, and loving Sister.

Another point that I want to become is more diligent with compassion for those who are in need, whether it be physical, financial, spiritual, or mentally. It is so easy to become entangled in our own web of activity and problems, that we forget that there are so many others going through difficult times.

The third point I want to address would be to listen and watch for those who are so lonely. I should take 30 minutes a day to call, write, email, or visit, if convenient, the countless individuals or couples who are sad, depressed, and lonely. These are folks who have, for the most part, been very active in their family, church, community, or school. Now, that they are facing their senior years, many have no family close by them. They may have illnesses that have robbed them of part of their memory or health, and may not have the financial means to hire someone to sit with them.

The last point I want to attempt to work toward would be to spend more time with my family and friends and my church. Somehow, I have become more involved with watching tv, surfing the internet, and wasting many hours. I do not want to spend my time doing menial tasks, when there is so much I could be volunteering with, many I could care for, and work I could accomplish.

Let's all work towards making someone else a Star this year! Let's help them shine and feel our love for them. Let's show them that they are important and that they deserve our help and kindness. Let us truly Reflect the Greatest Light and Love That Has Ever Been, Jesus Christ!
